Gombe is the second smallest National Park located 16 km north of Kigoma town on the shores of the world’s second deepest Lake Tanganyika in western Tanzania with an area of 56 square kilometers centered at 35M 0791840, 9486915. The arboreal slopes of the Great Rift Valley and the evergreen forests standing in the local valley bottoms support a wonderful diversity of wildlife and is a fragile habitat for chimpanzee.

ATTRACTIONS

Gombe wilderness worth a year round visit; enabling you to cruise along part of the historical inquisitiveness way back in the 19th century when Livingstone and Stanley searched the source of River Nile. Rainy season is the best chimpanzee sporting while the green vegetation blooms providing an astonishing scenic view and waterfalls are at the best( November to Mid- May) while dry season provides a chance for best photo taking , short and long hike(May to October).Spectacular mountains peaks. Gombe is a place of great scenic beauty. There are magnificent views of the mountains of the rift escarpment falling westwards into the Lake. The undulating terrain, valley and mosaic forest, woodland and grassland providing visitors with varied and attractive landscape. The peak together with the rolling hills provide a superb panoramic view. Jane’s peak, It is, the very best vantage point for watching chimpanzees in the whole of Gombe National Park. From the Peak you will be able to look southward over the home valley.

What to do:

Chimpanzee trekking, hiking, swimming and snorkeling; Visit the site of Henry Stanley’s famous “Dr Livingstone I presume” at Ujiji near Kigoma, and watch the renowned dhow builders at work. .
Best Time To Visit:
All Year around, The dry season (from late June to September) offers the best wildlife viewing in general- The timing of the migration varies every year (the best chance of seeing it is during June and July) while the wildebeest calving is from late January to February.
How to get there:
Kigoma is connected to Dar and Arusha by scheduled flights, to Dar and Mwanza by a slow rail service, to Mwanza, Dar and Mbeya by rough dirty roads, and to Mpulungu in Zambia by a weekly ferry. From Kigoma, local lake-taxis take up to three hours to reach Gombe, or motorboats can be chartered, taking less than one hour. The only way to reach Gombe is through Boat cruise. The cruise passes through various villages on the shore with beautiful scenery.
