DAY 1

Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Distance: ~8 km (5 miles) Elevation: 1,800 m (5,905 ft) to 2,700 m (8,858 ft) Highlights: Begin your journey at Marangu Gate after registration. Trek through lush rainforest, where you might see monkeys, diverse bird species, and unique flora. Arrive at Mandara Hut, where you’ll have dinner and rest for the night.

DAY 2

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Distance: ~12 km (7.5 miles) Elevation: 2,700 m to 3,720 m (12,205 ft) Highlights: Continue your ascent through the forest, transitioning to moorland with expansive views. Pass by the impressive Maundi Crater, which offers stunning panoramas of the surrounding landscape. Arrive at Horombo Hut, where you’ll have time to relax and acclimatize.

DAY 3

Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

Activities: Optional day hike to Zebra Rocks or Mawenzi Ridge. Purpose: Acclimatization is crucial to help your body adjust to the altitude. Highlights: Enjoy a relaxed day to explore the area and take in the views. This day helps reduce the risk of altitude sickness.

DAY 4

Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Distance: ~10 km (6.2 miles) Elevation: 3,720 m to 4,703 m (15,431 ft) Highlights: Trek through the alpine desert, with beautiful scenery and a gradual ascent. Arrive at Kibo Hut, where you’ll have an early dinner and prepare for summit night..

DAY 5

Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak, then down to Horombo Hut

Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak, then down to Horombo Hut Summit Day: Start around midnight. Distance: Kibo to Uhuru Peak is about 6 km (3.7 miles) up; return to Horombo is about 13 km (8 miles). Elevation: Summit at 5,895 m (19,341 ft). Highlights: Begin the ascent under the stars, with the goal of reaching the summit before sunrise. Experience breathtaking views at Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After the summit, descend back to Horombo Hut for a well-deserved rest.

DAY 6

Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

Distance: ~20 km (12.4 miles) Highlights: Final descent through lush rainforest, with the chance to spot wildlife. Arrive at Marangu Gate to celebrate your successful climb and receive your certificate!
