DAY 1

Rongai Gate to Simba Camp

Distance: ~8 km (5 miles) Elevation: 1,950 m (6,398 ft) to 2,650 m (8,694 ft) Highlights: Start at the Rongai Gate after registration. Trek through pine forests and open moorland, with the opportunity to see wildlife such as monkeys and various bird species. Arrive at Simba Camp, where you’ll enjoy dinner and rest.

DAY 2

Simba Camp to Second Cave

Distance: ~6 km (3.7 miles) Elevation: 2,650 m to 3,450 m (11,319 ft) Highlights: Gradual ascent through beautiful moorland with stunning views. Settle into Second Cave Camp, which offers views of Mawenzi Peak. Opportunity for acclimatization walks nearby.

DAY 3

Second Cave to Kikelewa Camp

Distance: ~8 km (5 miles) Elevation: 3,450 m to 3,600 m (11,811 ft) Highlights: Hike through diverse ecosystems, including the unique flora of the alpine zone. Arrive at Kikelewa Camp, situated in a scenic valley with great views of Mawenzi.

DAY 4

Kikelewa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn

Distance: ~7 km (4.3 miles) Elevation: 3,600 m to 4,330 m (14,196 ft) Highlights: Steeper ascent towards Mawenzi Tarn, with incredible views of Mawenzi Peak. Arrive at Mawenzi Tarn Camp, a beautiful spot surrounded by rock formations. Acclimatization opportunities and exploration of the area..

DAY 5

Mawenzi Tarn to Kibo Hut

Distance: ~9 km (5.6 miles) Elevation: 4,330 m to 4,703 m (15,431 ft) Highlights: Trek across the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, with breathtaking views. Arrive at Kibo Hut, the last stop before the summit. Early dinner and rest in preparation for the summit attempt.

DAY 6

Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak, then to Horombo Hut

Summit Day: Start around midnight. Distance: Kibo to Uhuru Peak is about 6 km (3.7 miles) up; return to Horombo is about 13 km (8 miles). Elevation: Summit at 5,895 m (19,341 ft). Highlights: Begin the ascent to Uhuru Peak under the stars, a challenging but exhilarating experience. Reach the summit in the early morning, witnessing breathtaking views and the sunrise. Descend to Horombo Hut for rest and recovery after a long day.

DAY 7

Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

Distance: ~20 km (12.4 miles) Highlights: Final descent through lush rainforest, with opportunities to see wildlife. Arrive at Marangu Gate to celebrate your successful climb and receive your certificate!
